I saw this picture of us.
I miss you.
If you could see it, you’d probably tell me that I shouldn’t have posted it because we’re sort of kissing, and I know how you feel about PDA.
But it’s all I got going till you get back.
Well, that and some Starbucks Decaf Venti Sugar Free Vanilla Fat Free No Foam Latte.
Do you remember my refusal to call my drinks ‘Venti’ – because it means twenty in Italian, and I felt too silly saying it, even though I know there are twenty ounces in the cup?
I’ve halfway capitulated, and I now mumble under my breath “ven…..” hoping they’ll catch on.
I haven’t taken the next step yet, enunciating the entire word, so if they ask me which size again, I say “the largest one, or the twenty ounce one”.
It’s silly, but it’s just one of those being Italian things that I can’t get over. In Italian it just wouldn’t make any sense to say it.
Plus in the land of food, love and coffee we have the small espresso cups and cappuccino mugs (which would be considered minuscule in the US!) and it’s only one size.
But I’m not having that many lattes, just every other day and only in extreme circumstances, when my car breaks, when I don’t have internet or when the kids are sick.
Although, no amount of latte comes even close to having you back, and I’d trade all of the ventis in a second to see you right now.
I miss you big guy!

I so hope your husband can read this post. It will mean so much to him. I’m going home now to hug my husband…whom I’ve only missed since 8:30 this morning.
That’s sweet and I love that you go home and hug your husband right now!
he’s a lucky man!
I hope your husband sees this.
Stay strong
Lisa
I met you in Chicago – lovely to see you again and I also hope your husband sees this
Simona
Does drinking red Gatorade make you have big boobs?
Would like to talk to you about opportunities with Texas Chamber of Commerce – just emails you. We truly enjoyed your column on Dallas.
The picture is so perfect! A totally classic. Print it and frame it!
By the way I used to work at Starbucks. Totally weird about the cup names. Tall and Grande mean nothing and yet Venti has an actually meaning to the size. Go figure LOL
I saw that you spoke at the BlogHer conference! So cool. Which session? Would love to check out the live blog and the recording of it. Bummed we didn’t meet! [I mean, we didn't right? cause I would feel so awful if we did and I totally blanked on it]
Awwww… that picture totally cracks me up. Hope you get to see him soon… and it’s just so wrong to me that you don’t have foam on your latte… that’s the best part, isn’t it?
Naomi – I’m so weird like that I don;t like foam
my mom can;t figure out how that’s possible!

Anita
This broke my heart. My dad is currently stationed in Germany and my mom has been there twice to visit him. She misses him desperately – they go 6-8 months without seeing each other. I can’t imagine how you must feel.
It was great meeting you at BlogHer. So….I am catching up here – where is he stationed? Whst is his mos? how long before he comes home?
Oh…and your kids are cute!!
Thanks for this post. So many people have no idea what military families sacrifice. You are a hero, too.
Hugs from another military spouse (blissfully retired)
Just wanted to tell you that I found your site for the first time from a link on Pioneer Woman after Blogher, and I have read far back in your archives… you have a really compelling voice and I want to give you and your girls a big squeeze.
(and thanks, Anita, for clicking on me… am particularly thinking about you because my cousin is leaving for afghanistan on tuesday — he does development work, not military, but it’s still hard. Sending your guy good energy).
Hi I found you on MBC and I am now following you! I know how much I missed my brother while he was deployed for almost 4 years straight. He was medically discharged in 2006. I can’t even imagine how tough 8 years of war must be on your and your girls. I am glad I found your blog! Cute pic and my prayers for your hubby and your fam!
