I just survived a visit with my in-laws – it went fairly well. Truth is, my father in law is a real nice man, straight forward, direct and funny. I have no issues with him. The one I have trouble with is my mother in law. If she could she’d cut my head off.
My husband is in the awesome position of having to ‘keep the peace’ as he likes to say. But what can I say, such is his plight in life.
To be honest, the woman is very nice to the kids, though I have started to wonder about her incontrollable need to constantly play with them and her inability to have conversations with adults, seriously I am surprised the finds time to eat. Seriously. But not in a fun way, in a teacher sort of I am taking over kind of way. Can;t explain it well but, really I am not kidding, she can only hover over the kids and despite the limited talking and conversations she manages to annoy me to no end.
MIL: Anita, should Livia (daughter number 5) take a bath tonight?
ME: No, she is fine
MIL: Livia should probably take a bath tonight
ME: No, she is OK, she was in the pool today, I am just going to put her down in a minute.
MIL: But you know Livia could use a bath, she was walking on the grass near poop before
ME: No, I don’t think so, she is fine
MIL: It would be better for Livia to take bath
She walks away. A few seconds later the water is running.
MIL: I am putting Livia in the bath
This exchange goes on for every single thing in my house and with my children. And I mean anything no matter what it is, clothing, kitchen, hey even weather, my clothes, their clothes, anything. It’s tiring.
Well, at least I won’t have to deal with it for a few months till they return and maybe I can borrow those earplugs my husband uses on the helicopter (though they won’t silence her hand activity and constant re-organizing of my home) for that I’ll need to tie her hands and maybe feet. That could work.

At least she interacts with the kids. My inlaws are 75 and they act 90. They’re just too old to be the grandparents my young kids want. My MIL usually just sits on the couch and watches TV.
That’s tough – sometimes I just with my MIL would keep more to ‘herself’ instead of trying to re-organize my entire kitchen/life!
