Most mornings, Amelia Strong wakes up at 5:30 a.m. and sits quietly in her parents-in-law’s kitchen in their home near Kansas City, Mo. Strong and her mother-in-law read their Bibles and sip tea. Occasionally they hold hands while they pray and ask for strength.
By 6 a.m., Strong’s routine starts. Her husband Tom, an Iraq veteran who suffers from various physical disabilities and post-traumatic stress disorder, needs help getting dressed and ready for his physical therapy and rehabilitation.
